Recommendations for cycling facilities in Luxembourg

Active mobility

While most daily journeys in the Grand Duchy are less than five kilometers, the growing majority of residents who cycle are just waiting for a quality cycling network and infrastructure to help improve mobility. To facilitate the planning of such infrastructures, the MMTP (formerly Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructures) publishes on the site veloplangen.lu, in the form of fact sheets, the recommendations for cycling facilities in Luxembourg.

Resulting from an analysis of international best practices, then an adaptation to the legal and infrastructural context of the Grand Duchy, these fact sheets represent, as they are published or updated on this site, the rules of the art in the matter. They are the reference both for planning and for authorizations from the ministry.

Faced with a bottleneck or a situation that is not explicitly dealt with in the fact sheets, the planner is invited to develop and duly justify a tailor-made solution that complies with the Highway Code.
