Electric transport
At a press conference on 18 November 2021, the Minister for the Economy, Franz Fayot, and the Minister for Energy, Claude Turmes, in the presence of representatives of professional chambers, presented a new aid scheme for companies investing in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The aim of the aid scheme is to further stimulate the development of electromobility in Luxembourg.
Details of the new measures
- The first type of aid, which benefits all businesses regardless of size, is awarded following a call for tenders to publicly accessible or private charging infrastructure projects, with a charging capacity of at least 175 kilowatts. Successful projects will be eligible for a subsidy of up to 50% of the investment involved in deploying the charging stations. A weighting system will ensure that the projects most accessible to the public are favoured in the selection procedure.
- The second aid scheme is reserved for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and is designed to help them make the transition to electromobility as part of their economic activity. On simple application, SMEs can benefit from a subsidy of up to 50% of the cost of charging points and up to 60% of the cost of connection to the electricity grid. Aid is capped at 60,000 euro for the cost of connection to the electricity grid and 40,000 euro for other deployment costs per company.
In order not to penalise companies that use leasing solutions to deploy public or private charging stations, they will also be able to benefit from the aforementioned aid in the form of a discount on the leasing contract.
The draft law on the aid scheme for companies investing in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles will shortly be tabled in the Chamber of Deputies. The text also provides for an adaptation of the organisation of the ‘Chargy’ and ‘SuperChargy’ network in line with the new European legislative framework. The new aid schemes will come into force on completion of the legislative and regulatory procedures and will be available on the guichet.lu platform.
