The general trend of simply leaving waste lying around is fortunately on the decline. At least in Luxembourg. However, nature still often resembles an open rubbish bin.

In 2022, the Public Roads Administration (PCH) collected alone almost 37 tons (!) of rubbish of all kinds on the Luxembourg motorway network.

So yes, maybe it's other people's fault on the motorways. The foreigners who cross the country and don't care about the beauty of the Grand Ducal landscapes. But a quick question: who pollutes our roads and country lanes, our car parks, public squares, footpaths and cycle paths? There's no need to answer, because we're probably all a little bit responsible. A simple cigarette butt, a paper tissue, a parking ticket. Even the most harmless gestures are enough. It is the accumulation of ‘little things’ that end up in the middle of our oceans.

On the street after visiting a petrol station, outside a fast food restaurant, in the woods, in the river after a party or even on the football pitch after a match - litter is everywhere.

A single cigarette butt is enough...
