P+R (Park and Ride) collector parkings
The P+Rs combine the advantage of the car, which lies in its availability in rural areas, with the strong point of public transport, namely their economy of space in urban areas.
Reserve P+R for commuters
The P+R near the borders and at the level of the urban belt of the City of Luxembourg are the most in demand. However, some P+Rs are now being diverted from their primary purpose and used as parking lots for a nearby business area. A pricing model will help to promote the compliant use of P+R in the future.
Cross-border P+R
Bilateral consultations with the authorities of neighboring countries have resulted in additional capacity in P+R places in cross-border regions. Projects such as the new P+R in Stockem, the new P+R in Roussy-le-Village and the extension in Longwy will expand the offer in Belgium and France. On the German side, the commissioning of the new "Weststrecke Trier" rail link will go hand in hand with the provision of additional P+R locations in Ehrang, Trier-West and Euren.
The cross-border bus lines that serve the P+Rs in the regions bordering the Grand Duchy are subsidized by the Luxembourg State. Following an agreement reached in 2017 with the Belgian State, in return for free P+Rs near the stations of Arlon, Aubange, Gouvy, Habay, Halanzy, Libramont, Marbehan, Neufchâteau, Stockem, Trois-Ponts, Vielsalm and Virton, the Luxembourg State is financing a substantial reduction in the price of train passes for commuters.
