Awareness campaign "The Great Move" For more understanding between road users.
On November 25, 2021, François Bausch, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Mobility and Public Works, and Paul Hammelmann, President of Road Safety asbl, presented the new awareness campaign against road insecurity "The Great Move" with the aim of promoting respectful interaction between all road users.
Due to an increase in accidents since September 2021, the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works and Road Safety a.s.b.l. decided to launch a campaign with a friendly tone. This is to remind people of the importance of simple actions and gestures in public space in order to guarantee the safety of all.
"It is imperative to watch over other road users and adopt the right actions at all times. Let’s all try to save lives together", said François Bausch at the conference.
Paul Hammelmann adds: "I will quote here the campaign of our French prevention counterparts: there are no small gestures if many of us do it. This sentence is very true for the cause that we defend, but also in the current context ".
During the press conference, 7 videos were released covering several themes: cell phone distraction among pedestrians, distracted driving, use of the flashing light, wearing high visibility clothing, safe distance and driving. danger of the blind spot.
Here is the description of the 7 videos demonstrating the behaviors to adopt for a good interaction between all road users:
- Episode 1: The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk staring at his cell phone without paying attention to the traffic. The driver is more attentive to the situation on the street; it slows down and brakes as the pedestrian crosses the street.
- Episode 2: To reduce the risk of an accident, the driver pulls into a parking space along the road before using his in-car screen.
- Episode 3: The driver checks his visual field and blind spot, then turns on his turn signal to indicate his change of direction.
- Episode 4: A jogger wears a yellow vest at night to allow maximum visibility for motorists.
- Episode 5: The motorist respects the space and the safe distance of the user in front of him in order to guarantee a more pleasant and less stressful cohabitation for all.
- Episode 6: Before changing direction, the driver slows down and turns her head to control her blind spot. She lets the cyclist pass and puts on her turn signal before turning right.
- Episode 7: The motorist slows down, he checks the visual field and puts on his turn signal before passing the cyclist while respecting the safety distance of 1.5m between him and the bike.
