In Luxembourg, there are various clubs and associations that are involved in aviation in various forms for recreational purposes: gliding, sports aircraft, parachuting, etc., which are united in the Luxembourg Aeronautical Federation (Fédération Aéronautique Luxembourgeoise).

Anyone wishing to engage in a recreational aviation activity must hold a private pilot's licence.

Private pilot licence

Several private clubs in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg offer the possibility of obtaining a private pilot's licence (PPL).

This includes:

  • theoretical training;
  • theoretical examination;
  • practical training;
  • practical examination.

After passing all the examinations, the private pilot's licence (PPL) is issued by the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DAC) of the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works.
