Water sports

The Grand-Ducal Regulation of April 29, 2002 (règlement grand-ducal du 29 avril 2002), regulates water sports in Luxembourg, including:

  • Waterski;
  • Jetski;
  • Wakeboarding.

The practice of certain water sports is prohibited on the Moselle:

- Towing kites;
- Riding parachutes or other similar devices.

In exceptional cases, particularly for sporting competitions, special permits may be granted.

Waterski

Water skiing is permitted on the Moselle River, except in sections marked with signs where water skiing is prohibited.

Special permits may be issued in exceptional cases, particularly for sports competitions.

Water skiing is prohibited before sunrise and after sunset and may be limited to specific periods.

Water skiers and towing boat operators must avoid any action likely to endanger people or property. They must also avoid any damage to the banks, facilities, or waterway signs.

Jetski

All jet skis must be equipped with a technical device that immediately cuts off propulsion in the event of a power interruption.

Any person on a jet ski in operation is required to wear a life jacket.

Jet skiing is only permitted between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

It is prohibited in any case before sunrise and after sunset and when visibility is less than 1,000 meters.

Exceptions may be granted for a specific period in accordance with local requirements.

Wakeboard

Wakeboarding is a type of water skiing in which the rider is pulled by a motorboat to glide across the water while holding onto their board.

Rest assured, you don't need to be a top athlete to practice it. The most important thing is to listen to the instructors' advice before literally jumping into the water. A bit of physical fitness is nevertheless welcome to have the strength to get back on the board after a few falls. One thing is certain: waves of excitement await you.

The different lakes in Luxembourg

Echternach

In Echternach, the artificial lake at the entrance to the town is ideal for pedal boat or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) rides, which can be refreshing in hot weather.

Pedal boats can be rented at the entrance to the lake between Easter and October. You can board between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Esch-sur-Sûre

On the lake Haute Sûre, the largest artificial lake in Luxembourg, you can also practice pedal boats, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and take solar boat excursions.

Weiswampach

You can also navigate on the waters of the lakes of Weiswampach. Here we offer pedal boats for hire all around the lake.
