Passenger rail transport
Travellers' rights
Passengers can assert their rights if their train is delayed or cancelled.
Since 2007, European regulations have set out the compensation that passengers are entitled to on international trains, subject to certain conditions. Passengers are entitled to:
- payment of compensation equivalent to 25% of the ticket price in the event of a delay of between 60 and 119 minutes and 50% in the event of a delay of 120 minutes or more;
- reimbursement of all or part of the ticket price when a train is cancelled or in the event of a foreseeable delay of more than 60 minutes, if you decide not to start or continue your journey;
- assistance or refreshments in the event of a foreseeable delay of more than 60 minutes, and even the provision of accommodation or alternative transport if it is impossible to continue the journey by train on the same day.
National and cross-border journeys are not eligible for compensation. These are as follows:
- links between 2 Luxembourg stations;
- rail links between a Luxembourg station and a station in the Greater Region (Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Belgian provinces of Luxembourg and Liège, French Lorraine).
