Public "Chargy" charging stations
The network of public charging stations for electric cars and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has been operating under the name Chargy since June 2017.
As of early 2019, 277 Chargy and "Chargy OK"1) charging stations were operational and publicly accessible, including 203 stations on public roads, 43 stations at park-and-ride facilities, and 31 "Chargy OK" charging stations at private residences.
By 2020, a total of 800 charging stations were planned to be installed throughout the country: 400 charging stations in municipal public parking areas—including car-sharing spaces—and 400 charging stations at park-and-ride facilities, providing easy access to public transportation. Since each charging station has two fast-charging points (between 3.7 kW and 22 kW, depending on the vehicle type), Chargy will offer a total of 1,600 electric vehicle charging points.
The original charge of the réseau has a number of uniform payment options and the multifunction charger card can be used for the different functions of the "mKaart". The souscription of a contract with a supplier of charging service, the user will have access to charging stations via their Chargy card. This will allow them to view their electricity charges, locate charging stations and reserve a charging point online from their computer or via the mobile application on the my.chargy.lu platform.
1) In keeping with Jeremy Rifkin's vision of the 3rd Industrial Revolution to create a smart, interactive electricity grid, the Chargy network is not limited to 800 public charging points but is designed to integrate all other charging points compatible with the platform. These charging points will then be labeled "Chargy OK" and can be operated in the same way as the public charging points.
