Did you know...? Why do police officers photograph stopped cars during a check?
When a police officer holds their cell phone up to a stopped vehicle, it's not always to photograph it. Police officers use their smartphones to scan the license plate of the car, truck, or van.
The police now use a secure application on their service devices that allows officers to immediately perform routine checks on a vehicle based on its license plate. Previously, these procedures had to be carried out remotely, by transmitting the data via radio to the control center, which then had to manually perform the searches and communicate them to the officers in the field.
Law enforcement officials explain that this new, more modern and faster method saves them time and avoids unnecessary procedures, but it also helps relieve congestion in various departments, which can now focus on other tasks.
Additionally, some situations require taking photographs of a vehicle, such as a wrecked car, to document the damage or the entire scene.
