Compulsory training for new drivers

All novice drivers (driving licence categories A and B) residing in Luxembourg must attend a compulsary training course.

Category A

In the two years after obtaining their driving licence (probationary period), all new drivers must have completed the relevant training. New drivers can take this course from the third month after obtaining their driving licence. However, at least 3,000 km of driving experience is recommended.

The course, which is not an exam, helps young motorcyclists to adopt a responsible and defensive driving style. This makes them aware of the daily dangers of road traffic and their own limitations, those of the motorcycle and those of physics, so that they can react correctly in emergency situations.

Category B

Every new driver must complete this training course within the first two years of obtaining their driving licence (probationary period). New drivers can take this course as early as three months after obtaining their driving licence. However, at least 3,000 km of driving experience is recommended.

The aim of the course is to help new drivers adopt a responsible and defensive driving style. This involves becoming aware of the dangers of road traffic and knowing your own limits and the behaviour of your own vehicle so that you can react correctly in emergency situations.

Professional drivers: specific training courses

Training ADR-drivers

For the transport of dangerous goods (ADR), drivers must complete special training courses that qualify them to carry out these transports. These training courses are organised regularly by House of Training.

Training for professional drivers (Code 95)

In principle, any driver who transports goods or passengers on public roads in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg using vehicles for which a Class C or D driving licence is required must complete a professional training (initial or further).

Driver Training Centre (Centre de Formation pour Conducteurs - CFC)

In Luxembourg, these various training courses are organised by the Driver Training Centre (Centre de Formation pour Conducteurs - CFC).

Details of these training courses, admission criteria, exemptions, etc. can be found in the FAQs on training for professional drivers.

Please note that courses for access to the profession of transport operator are also organised by the House of Training.
