International driving licence

The Luxembourg driving license is recognized by agreement in all member states of the European Union (EU) and even in the European Economic Area (EEA). Outside the EU and EEA, some countries require an international driving license, which is a certified translation of the national driving license, to be accompanied by the driving license.

The current model of the international driving license contains English, Spanish, Russian, or Portuguese on its inside pages. The international driving license is therefore legible in all countries that have ratified one of the two conventions on road traffic (1949 Geneva or 1968 Vienna).

A special international driving license is issued to individuals who wish to drive in Japan, a country that only recognizes the 1949 Geneva Convention.

The international driving license is issued by the Automobile Club of Luxembourg (ACL).
