Fourth edition of the "Vëlosummer" 2023: 29 July - 27 August 2023
Due to the great success of the previous editions of the "Vëlosummer" and the positive feedback from the participating municipalities, the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works and the General Directorate of Tourism are launching a fourth edition to be held from 29 July to 27 August 2023.
During this year's edition, cyclists can safely ride on a total of 12 cycling routes with a total length of over 500 kilometres in 58 municipalities. Compared to 2022, the new edition will offer four new routes, 114 km of roads will be reserved for cyclists, 90% of them only on one or two weekends. This year, two-wheeler fans will also be able to cross the Belgian and French borders on two routes.
François Bausch said: "We are very pleased to offer the fourth edition of the "Vëlosummer", which has become an unmissable event in the Luxembourg calendar. The 12 cycling tours offer cyclists the opportunity to discover the different facets of the country by bike, while encouraging more people to use bicycles as a means of transport in their daily lives."
A diverse tourism framework programme
The participating municipalities and the five regional tourist offices (ORT) will also contribute to the tourism framework programme of the "Vëlosummer 2023", with animations along the tours. A series of promotional videos, which will be distributed via social networks, will highlight the tourist attractions along the routes of the "Vëlosummer".
Useful information can also be found on the map and the website www.velosummer.lu and in the "VisitLuxembourg" app. The map can now be ordered or downloaded from the website. It lists the types of routes, the levels of difficulty, details of the characteristics of each tour and additional information for families. Interested parties will also find information on restaurants, hotels and sights along the various routes. For the more playful, the "VisitLuxembourg" app will offer a "Challenges" option, where you can "check in" at various points of interest and thus collect points to win various prizes.
Once again this year, markers and ground markers will guide the way. The new signs are durable and are partly made of recyclable materials. It should be noted that the wood from the old signs has been given a second life and is used by re-employment organisations to make boxes and nesting boxes.
In addition, the luggage transport service "Move we carry", where cyclists can have their luggage delivered free of charge from one accommodation to the next, will be available again for 12 euros per piece of luggage (www.movewecarry.lu). Furthermore, certified "bed+bike" accommodations, which have a free, locked bike room, are happy to welcome cycle tourists (www.bedandbike.lu, in German/French). In addition, there is the "Rent a bike" service, which makes it possible to rent bikes, either in the "Rent a Bike" shops or directly on the routes of the "Vëlosummer 2023", such as in Echternach or Remich.
In this context, the Minister for Tourism, Lex Delles, emphasised that "the Directorate General for Tourism has placed the tourism year 2023 under the sign of active tourism. In this context, the 'Vëlosummer' plays a central role and offers the possibility to explore our tourist attractions by bike. By highlighting the tourist assets and specificities of our different regions, we encourage residents, cross-border commuters and tourists to grasp Luxembourg's diversity".
