Traffic prevention campaign to promote safety in road tunnels
The Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, together with the Road Administration (Administration des ponts et chaussées) and the Sécurité routière a.s.b.l., has launched a new traffic prevention campaign to promote safety in road tunnels.
The road network in Luxembourg includes numerous tunnels, 8 of which are longer than 500 metres and 4 even longer than 1500 metres. Road users may be confronted with exceptional situations that require an appropriate response. The campaign focuses on the behaviour that road users should adopt when passing through a tunnel.
Indeed, passing through a tunnel can be dangerous if the appropriate behavioural rules are not followed when approaching and inside a road tunnel, especially due to the lower clearance profile and the change from natural to artificial lighting compared to the normal road.
The aim is to make drivers of motorised vehicles aware of the specific conditions in a tunnel by presenting different situations that road users may face.
The campaign consists of three 30-second short films and brochures to encourage drivers to show the right reflexes in the event of an impending traffic jam, an accident, a breakdown or even a fire in a tunnel.
