Running races

Sports competitions such as running races, with ranking or award ceremony and which take place on public roads, are subject to prior ministerial authorization.

By sports competition, within the meaning of article 143 of the Highway Code ("Code de la Route"), is understood to mean "any event in which several competitors participate on foot, on horseback, on a cycle or in a self-propelled vehicle and which gives rise to any ranking of the participants or the award ceremony, according to criteria established by the organizer of the event".

Requests for authorization for running races should be sent to the concerned federation:

• Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Triatlon FLTRI
• Fédération luxembourgeoise d'athlétisme (F.L.A.)
   

Requests for ministerial authorization required in accordance with article 143 of the Highway Code ("Code de la Route") must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the event in question to:

• Ministry of Mobility and Public Works – Department of Mobility and Transport

• the municipal administration in which the event takes place;
• the National Road Administration ("Administration des ponts et chaussées");
  
• the Police Luxembourg.
