Rail freight transport
When it comes to rail freight transport, a distinction is made between conventional rail freight and combined transport, where the goods are transported using several modes of transport:
- rail;
- road;
- river.
The main aim of combined transport is to promote rail transport, but also to relieve the roads and reduce CO2 emissions.
Geographically, Luxembourg lies in the heart of Europe. The new multimodal hub at Bettembourg links the road and rail networks and is attracting many freight transport companies, particularly with a view to using the rail motorway.
