Passenger ship
Passengers are transported on inland waterways by vessels built in accordance with the technical requirements laid down in Directive (EU) 2016/1629 and subsequently transposed into national law in Luxembourg.
Carriage of passengers
An operating licence issued by the Minister of Transport is required for the paid operation of a passenger ship registered in a Luxembourg register and operating in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Application for an operating permit
The form available at guichet.lu must be duly completed and sent to the Service de la navigation fluviale, B.P. 8 in L-6071 Grevenmacher or by e-mail to service.navigation@sn.etat.lu together with the attached documents.
Issuing technical certificates for river navigation
In order to ensure a high level of safety in inland navigation and thus also protect the environment and the people on board, a vessel operating on EU inland waterways and carrying passengers must hold an EU inland navigation certificate or an equivalent certificate.
