In the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Moselle is a category Vb river offering the conditions required for the movement of boats of up to 135 m in length.

It is 37 km long and forms part of the international Moselle under the convention of 27 October 1956.

Two lock dams are located at Grevenmacher and Stadtbredimus and are managed by the Navigation Service in conjunction with their German counterparts.

On the Luxembourg side of the Moselle, the Port of Mertert, Luxembourg's only trimodal hub, which is located between the towns of Mertert and Grevenmacher, covers a total area of 65 ha and is used for the transhipment of heavy goods, including oil, metal products and building materials.

Schwebsange has a marina for pleasure boats.

Numerous water sports activities take place on the Haute-Sûre lake during the season.
