Car occupancy
250.000 empty car seats enter the Luxembourg city conurbation every morning (between 6:00 and 10:00 o'clock). The occupancy rate is 1,16 people per car for residents and 1,22 people per car for cross-border workers (Luxmobil survey 2017).
Modal split 2017
- 69% of journeys were made by car;
- 17% of travellers used public transport;
- 12% of people travelled on foot;
- 2% of people travelled by bicycle.

External benefits in the form of reduced healthcare costs (for all those who finance the healthcare system): pedestrians & cyclists = 12.11 cents per person per km. So for every kilometre a person walks or cycles, they save society 6.91 cents in expenditure.
